At a glance
Voluntary and unpaid
Never pay or accept money for blood.
Screened by professionals
Medical staff decide who can donate and test every unit.
Tested before transfusion
A matching blood group still needs testing and cross-matching.
Our principles
- Voluntary: nobody should be pressured, coerced or rewarded with money to donate.
- Responsible: donate only when you are well and eligible, and follow the staff’s advice.
- Supervised: donation takes place at a hospital or blood center, under qualified staff.
- Safe: blood is screened and tested as the law requires before it is used.
Who can donate
Social Blood Bank does not make the final decision on whether you can donate. Eligibility depends on the law of your country and the rules of the blood center, and on your age, weight, health, medicines, recent travel, pregnancy and breastfeeding, the time since your last donation, infection risk and medical history, as assessed by professional screening.
In Bangladesh, commonly cited guidance includes being at least 18 years old, weighing around 45 to 50 kg or more, and waiting about four months between whole-blood donations. These figures are only a general guide and are not legal rules. The blood center decides.
The platform may hide or label donors as potentially eligible based on the information they entered, such as their last donation date. This is only an estimate.
Blood testing and blood group
Licensed blood centers and hospitals collect blood and test it, including for infections such as HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis and malaria. Social Blood Bank does not test blood.
A blood group on the platform is information only until it is confirmed by a laboratory. A laboratory-verified label means authorized facility staff recorded it.
Compatibility
An ABO and Rh match is not final transfusion compatibility. Before a transfusion, the hospital or blood center performs its own compatibility testing, such as cross-matching. See the Medical Disclaimer.
No payment, no blood trade
Social Blood Bank must never be used to buy, sell or broker blood, to traffic blood, to coerce anyone to donate, or to exploit families financially. Do not pay or accept money or gifts for donating. Report anyone who asks.
Lawful charges by a licensed hospital or blood center for its own services, such as screening, processing or storage, are not a sale of blood. Badges and thanks on the platform are recognition, not payment.
Staying safe
- Go to the hospital or blood center named in the request. Do not meet strangers elsewhere.
- Check the request with the hospital or the request team if something seems wrong.
- Share only the personal information that is needed.
- Eat, drink and rest as the staff advise, and tell them if you feel unwell.
- Report suspicious requests with the Report button.
Your donor privacy
You choose who can find you as a donor with your privacy mode and consents. Your blood group is only public if you switch on a public donor profile, and your mobile number is shared with a request team only after you accept their request and only if you allowed it. See the Privacy Policy.
No guarantees
Social Blood Bank cannot guarantee that a donor will be available or will donate, that a donation will succeed, that blood will be available or compatible, that it will arrive in time, or that a transfusion will succeed. In an emergency, contact the hospital or blood center directly.
