At a glance
No medical advice
Nothing on the platform is a diagnosis, prescription or clinical advice.
Professionals decide
Hospitals and licensed blood centers screen donors, test blood and make transfusion decisions.
A match is not compatibility
A matching blood group is not confirmed transfusion compatibility.
What Social Blood Bank does not do
- Diagnose, prescribe or give clinical medical advice.
- Perform blood tests, disease screening, blood typing or cross-matching.
- Decide or certify that someone is eligible to donate blood.
- Decide whether blood is compatible with a patient.
- Collect, store, transport or supply blood.
- Replace a doctor, a hospital or a blood center.
Who is responsible for medical decisions
Qualified healthcare professionals and authorized facilities remain responsible for donor screening and medical eligibility, blood collection, laboratory testing and disease screening, blood typing and cross-matching, storage and transport, transfusion and all clinical care. In Bangladesh, blood may only be collected and supplied by licensed blood transfusion centers and hospitals, which must screen every unit as the law requires.
What the information on the platform means
- A donor profile means a person registered as a donor. It does not mean the person is medically cleared to donate.
- Potentially eligible means a donor seems to fit a request on the information available, such as blood group, area and the time since the last donation. The final decision is made by medical staff.
- Self-reported means the person entered their blood group themselves. Laboratory verified means authorized facility staff recorded it. In both cases, the blood must still be tested and cross-matched before transfusion.
- An ABO and Rh match is not final transfusion compatibility.
- Facility, campaign and blood availability information is provided by users and organizations, can change at any time and must be confirmed with the facility.
Your own health
If you are unsure whether you can donate, or if you feel unwell before or after donating, ask the blood center staff or a doctor. Do not donate to get a test result. Tell the staff honestly about your health, medicines and travel.
General information only
Guidance pages, notices and messages on Social Blood Bank are general information. They may not apply to your situation and may not reflect the rules of every country or facility. See the Donation Policy for how donation works on the platform.
