Account Deletion
How deleting your Social Blood Bank account works: what to resolve first, the 30-day grace period, restoring your account and what happens to your data.
Overview
You can delete your Social Blood Bank account yourself. Deletion is not immediate: after you confirm, your account is scheduled for permanent deletion 30 days later, and you can restore it until then.
Deleting your account removes you, not the history other people rely on. Blood requests, verifications and organization records stay, without your personal details.
Before You Delete Your Account
Some things you are responsible for would be left without anyone in charge. Settings lists them, and deletion can only be scheduled once each one is resolved:
Active Blood Requests
- An active blood request you own must be assigned to another person or cancelled.
- To assign it, offer ownership to someone on its Blood Requester Team. The request is resolved only when they accept.
- Cancelling uses the normal "close request" step: donors stop being asked and the request history stays.
Organizations You Own
- If you are the Owner of an organization, transfer ownership to an active member with a verified email address. They must accept, and you stay as an Admin until your account is deleted.
- An organization with no history and no other members can be archived instead. An organization with members or history cannot be archived; transfer it.
- Organizations are never deleted automatically because their Owner leaves.
Other Active Responsibilities
- Open ownership offers addressed to you must be declined.
- Open facility claims you made yourself must be withdrawn.
- A facility you manage yourself, or a platform role, must be handed over by Social Blood Bank Support or a Super Admin.
History never blocks deletion: closed requests, past verifications and organizations you created but no longer own are fine.
How to Request Account Deletion
- Sign in and open Settings → Account Deletion.
- Resolve every item listed there.
- Confirm that you understand, enter your current password and choose Delete My Account.
- You see the date of permanent deletion, and we send you a notification and an email.
Nobody else can delete your account for you from this page, and opening this page or the Settings section never deletes anything.
30-Day Grace Period
- Your account enters Pending Deletion and the 30 days start at the moment you confirm.
- The date is kept by our server. A clock on your device does not change it.
- You can still sign in. Every page shows the deletion date and a Restore Account button.
- While deletion is pending you cannot post a blood request, create an organization, accept ownership, submit a facility claim or accept a donation request, and you no longer receive donor alerts. Restore your account to do these again.
How to Restore Your Account
- Sign in during the 30 days.
- Choose Restore Account (on any page, or in Settings → Account Deletion).
- The scheduled deletion is cancelled and your account is active again, with everything as it was. No staff help is needed.
Signing in alone does not restore the account. After permanent deletion, restoring is no longer possible.
What Happens After 30 Days
When the 30 days end, a background job on our server deletes the account, even if you never visit the site again. Just before, it checks again that nothing still depends on you; if something does, the deletion waits and the item is flagged for our team.
If the job is interrupted, it tries again. Your account is never shown as deleted until the deletion has finished.
What Happens to Your Public Profile
- Your profile address (/user/your-username/) keeps working, so links in old records do not break.
- It shows only that this account is no longer on Social Blood Bank: no name, photo, blood group, area, contact details or activity.
- Search engines are asked not to index it.
What Happens to Historical Blood Requests
- Completed, expired and cancelled blood requests stay, because donors, hospitals and organizations took part in them.
- Where you appeared in them, you are shown as "Deleted User", linked to the deleted-account notice.
- Requests you handed over stay with their new owner.
What Happens to Requests You Verified
- If you verified blood requests, the verification stays: when it happened, the result and the organization you verified for.
- It now says "Verified by: Deleted User" and that the verifier account is no longer active.
- Deleting your account does not make a verified request unverified.
What Happens to Organizations
- An organization you own must be transferred (or, if it has no history, archived) before deletion.
- An organization you created but no longer own stays with its current Owner and does not block deletion. Its history still records when it was created.
- Your memberships in other organizations end when your account is deleted. Their records of what you did stay, as "Deleted User".
What Personal Data Is Deleted
When your account is deleted, we delete:
- Your password and every way to sign in: sessions, app sign-ins, trusted browsers, verification codes and password-reset links.
- Your email address and mobile number.
- Your profile photo, name, addresses and location.
- Your donor profile, availability and donor verifications.
- Your preferences, consents, notifications and notification settings.
- Emails not yet sent to you, and push and device tokens.
- The text of messages you sent.
What Historical Data May Remain
Some records stay because other people, organizations or safety rules depend on them. They are kept without your personal details, as "Deleted User":
- Blood requests and the donor responses in them.
- Donation records and verification events.
- Organization history, such as who created it and past memberships.
- Safety reports, support tickets and security and audit records.
We keep them only as long as needed. Our Privacy Policy lists how long we keep information.
Username and Public ID
- Your username stays reserved forever and can never be used by anyone else.
- Your public ID is never given to anyone else.
- This makes sure old links never point to a different person.
Account Security and Sessions
- Deleting needs your current password, so nobody can delete your account from a device you left signed in without knowing it.
- When the account is deleted, every session, remembered browser, app sign-in and code stops working, and the account can no longer sign in.
- If you get an email about a deletion you did not ask for, sign in, restore your account and change your password.
